PROPER AND CORRECT USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Translated by Danti, Editor by Adinda
Why do we use social media? Is it to browse friends' posts? Is it to find memes? Is it to stalk an ex? Or do war to uphold justice?
All these are facts that we all usually do in our free time. At that time we could actually do anything more useful (followed by our own initiative).
Here I will share, which hopefully can be useful for you.
I am a social media addict, specifically a Twitter addict. I've been using Twitter since my first year of junior high school, maybe around 2013/2014 and this is the first time I have a personal account. The first one, I used some cheesy words for my tweet. Over time, in 2019, when Twitter began to increase due to the emergence of many K-pop fan accounts, which means I use Twitter again because of the increasing use of Twitter.
After a long time I finally understood how to use Twitter at that time, got some followers for following fellow fans, besides that I also thought, "I'm a freshman majoring in English. It's boring if I just study in class and then do assignments." To be honest, I'm usually bored and I have to adjust my learning style to be more comfortable in learning.
When I was scrolling on Twitter where I vented, I found a video on my Twitter timeline. A girl is giving a tutorial on how to quickly memorize English grammar there. To be honest, I struggled to do it my freshman year as a college student. Because I found it useful to me, I saved the tweet and the video in it to my bookmarks. I started setting the language on my device to English, both smartphones and laptops. What is the reason for all this? So that we can slowly learn independently for English unconsciously. Correlation with a fan account that I have, it is a challenge for me to tweet in English.
On my Twitter timeline, sometimes I feel jealous that my mutuals can be this confident in tweeting in English and they proudly write 'ENG-IDN' in their bio, most of them speak about anything in English as the main language. They sometimes count how often they use the language. Of course, I as an English learner are increasingly excited to improve my English. Language setting to English, done. I just have to follow the accounts that mostly tweet in English, other than when I whip my favorite idol.
Incidentally, autobase was on the rise at the time (maybe now and maybe in the future). If you don't have Twitter and don't know it, autobase - formed from auto and fan base - is a place where you can message anonymously with specific questions and topics via direct message. You understand now?
Maybe there are several accounts that personally create threads, usually English learning tutorials are mostly grammar or English vocabulary. It's all in a personal or individual account. In contrast to autobase. Incidentally, I followed one of the autobases which was specifically for English only. Well, there you can Kim Menfess about English.
From social media, I would say it can bring us a lot of benefits. Not only did I mention the specifics above, it's a waste of time and does nothing but poke around. You know, it's fun when you mix learning and playing. Even a social media addict like me can proudly say 'I learned from social media' because some of my friends wondered how I got high scores in some English tests. I study regularly and playing social media is the answer.
This is the end of my story about how I use social media properly and in the end full of lashing out at my idol haha. But calm down, this is followed by learning. You can also share your learning style here. Are any of you the same as me?
